“Life is short, climb that god damn mountain.”
Once I found out that the highest point in the Adriatic Islands was just a quick ferry ride away from me, I had to hop on over there and hike it for myself.
The Vidova Gora lookout is on Brac Island, accessible right from Bol, the most popular town on the island. Brac island is one of the largest islands on the Croatian coast and very east to get to from Split via ferry for just 30 kuna. The ferry takes you to Supetar which is on the other side of the island but you can catch the local bus for 50 kuna return ticket to Bol and back. We stayed at Supetar at the Funky Donkey hostel for 113kuna per night.
The hike itself takes between 3-5 hours depending how long you spend at top and how fit your group is. For us, it took 4 hours and we spent around 45 minutes at the top for lunch. We started at 10:30am which I wouldn’t recommend doing on a hot summers day as the sun was hot and there’s little protection from the trees as you walk. Basically, i felt like i was burning in a hot oven. Earlier morning or in the afternoon when the suns not so intense would be best. It’s safe to say I’m sunburnt and dehydrated right now as I sit here on the bus back to Supetar. Wear sunscreen, bring lots of water and don’t hike in the middle of the day like I’ve done, haha.
The elevation for the Lookout is 780m high and the lookout at the top offers a pretty cool view of Hvar and Zlatni beach down below. Being at the highest point in the Adriatic Islands was a good feeling. There is also the option to drive up to the top if you want to see the view but don’t feel like hiking although I would highly recommend the walk up. The scenic views along the way were pretty good and it’s always good to get outside and get active. I know i sure need all the exercise I can get after traveling for so long.
Safe travels + enjoy the hike if you are planning to do it yourself!
Jessie 🙂
